Level one

If you simply want to do something RIGHT NOW then here’s some suggestions for things you can do immediately or with just a few clicks on the internet. This isn’t a comprehensive list! This is just to get you started. But by starting (and learning), you’ll find what you like doing and what you’re passionate about.

Talk about it

“One of the biggest problems when it comes to action on climate change is simply that we don’t talk about it enough. This makes it harder to know what the problems and solutions really are, and keeps the pressure off people who could help change things – whether that’s politicians, businesses, or your Uncle Dave. Talk more about the topic, and it’ll be more normal. The media isn’t doing the job for us –  recent research showed that climate change appears in non-news TV as much as rhubarb (and 20 times less than Brexit) – you can change this, simply by raising the topic.” Dr Alice Bell

Join the Global Climate Strike

The #SchoolStrike4Climate has been one of the most successful actions in the fight against climate change. In September 2019 the school strikers are calling on everyone: young people, parents, workers, and all concerned citizens to join massive climate strikes and a week of actions starting on September 20th 2019. People all over the world will use their power to stop “business as usual” in the face of the climate emergency. All you have to do is take 60 seconds to sign up here.

Join the Extinction Rebellion

…or follow them on Twitter @ExtinctionR Instagram @extinctionrebellion or Facebook – “an international movement that uses non-violent civil disobedience to achieve radical change in order to minimise the risk of human extinction and ecological collapse…. We need you – whoever you are, however much time you have – to help build a powerful movement. Our vision of change involves mass participation. Together we’re unstoppable.” #RebelForLife

Sign up to Go Fossil Free

…and become part of a powerful global movement working to build a future free from the injustice of climate change, and free from the fossil fuel industry that drives it. 350.org are also doing outstanding work on this so sign up with them too!

And if you’re studying or work at a university, then People & Planet have a page where you can easily find out what connections your university has to fossil fuel companies and join a campaign to get them to divest.
